What is the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
After years of waiting, we can finally say that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12, 2023.
The release date was announced during the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, when the full title of the games was revealed. We’ve been waiting a long time for the game to release, and now it’s only a bit longer until it’s in our hands, and it looks to have been worth the wait.
All The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Preorders. Platforms, & Editions
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch, which should be no surprise given the game is being developed by Nintendo for its system.
There are two versions of the game available for pre-order. The first is the Standard Edition, a simple, straight-to-the-point option for those wanting the game. This version includes the base game with no additional content or DLC. In a first for Nintendo, this version will be slightly more costly at $69.99/£59.99 compared to its usual price point. You can preorder this version from Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop in the US. You can preorder the game in the UK from GAME, Amazon, Argos, and the My Nintendo Store.
For those who want to go all in and get some extra exclusive physical items, there is a Collector Edition that comes with the game, an art book with concept art and illustrations from the game and its development, a set of pins, a steel book game case, and a collectors box. This will likely sell out quickly and be tougher to find, so be ready to do some digging. It’s also a bit more expensive than the Standard Edition and will cost you $129.99/£109.99. In the US, you can preorder this Collectors Editon from Best Buy. You can preorder from GAME, Amazon, and the My Nintendo Store in the UK.
As well as these different editions, a new Link Amiibo will be available on the same day as the game’s release. This Amiibo gives us a good look at Link’s new outfit and a snazzy new arm. Scanning this Amiibo and others into the game will provide players with helpful weapons, materials, and paraglider fabrics unique to different Amiibo. This Amiibo will cost you $15.99/£12.99. You can preorder the Amiibo from Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop in the US. You can preorder the Amiibo in the UK from GAME, Amazon, and the My Nintendo Store.
Some stores or outlets may offer other goodies alongside your purchase for a little extra money. In the case of the UK My Nintendo Store, these include collector’s coins or notebooks, so it’s worth checking to see if anything extra comes with your preorder.
